RODS
Pole/Whip
Pole fishing took longer to take off in the UK than in Europe but has become the most popular method of fishing in England over the past few years. the main advantage of pole fishing is bait presentation with you being able to place the bait in the same spot time and time again without disturbing the water too much. Poles can range from 8 meters to 15 meters in length with Whips ranging from 3 meters to 8 meters.
Match Rods
Match Rods range from 10 to 14 feet long and are used mainly for normal coarse fishing and are not advised to be used for larger species. The Match Rod is slowly being replaced by most anglers with The Pole.
Ledger Rods
Ledger Rods are used for longer distance casting where a weight is used to hold the bait on the bottom and a tip (swing, spring or quiver) is used as a bite indicator. These rods are usually 9 to 10 feet long and can be used for larger fish up to 10lb without fear of breaking.
Carp/Pike Rods
Most specialist rods are classified by their test curves as well as their length. Your local tackle dealer is the best person to talk to about the difference each rod has and what would be the best rod for the type of fishing you wish to do.
